The 18th Century Drawing Room, Commissions
Furnished with rich mahogany pieces and a grand fireplace, the room harkens to many of the European or British influences on American staging and decor during the period.
Yet, the paintings genuinely capture the eye in this room. While some are clippings that Mrs. Fisher framed or bought, there is one within this room that she commissioned from a local Wilkes Barre artist, Niccolo Cortiglia.
Cortiglia created an oil painting of a young woman dressed in a blue gown and bonnet that hangs above the fireplace mantel.
This piece of the Dollhouse’s history shows us a broadened frame in creating it. It shows how Fisher built upon simply making it—she commissioned people, giving them the means to continue producing art that may not be readily accessible: miniature portraits!
