Victorian Living Room Gilded Accents

These tones offer a drastically different social ideal than what can be seen in a neighboring room, the Victorian Living Room. Where it was the personalizing touches of the Country Store that bespoke a simpler, communal identity within American culture, the Victorian room seems to point to more refined European influences that were prevalent during the late 19th century. 

One would not be amiss to point to the luxurious notes and pieces within the victorian room! It alone is of those that possess ornate wallpaper, rose satin drapes, crystal chandeliers, carved chairs, and even a bear rug adorning the floors.

The room is adorned with fresco ceilings, floral wallpaper, and elaborate furnishings, which seem to indicate the Victorian era. Many of these tokens seem the opposite of those felt in the Country Store. 

Whereas the idea and image of communal growth, marking the industry in the region by the residue it leaves on the very floorboards and including public use spaces, such as the post office box or payphone, the Victorian room uses minor details among the extravagant room dressing to speak of opulence and elegance—like the bearskin. Moreover, there is evidence to the evolving photography technology within the Victorian room, as we see a daguerreotype hanging on the back wall.

The minor pieces of this room really sing to Fisher's dedication and craft. Similar to the Country Store, there is always more to find in the tiny space the longer you look. One reviewer was struck by the upright piano, where if one looks closely, you will see miniature sheet music that prepares the player for “Melody in F” and “Spring song” (Hobbist With a Heart).

What is truly fun though is finding pieces that call to modern experiences, connecting our lives as viewers to this impressive feat of hobby. In the Victorian Room, one of such luxury that it feels so greatly distanced from us today, if you look carefully, you can see their subscription to the New York Times hanging in a basket on the wall!
